Hi!

I’m Laura Sooy

Triple Certified Personal Trainer, Functional Fitness Specialist, and Group Fitness Instructor

The beginning

vintage photo of Laura Sooy from the 1980'sMy fitness journey began in 1983, back when group fitness classes were choreographed, low-impact, and set to vinyl records and cassette tapes. What started as teaching classes quickly grew into a lifelong passion as the fitness industry evolved and I evolved right along with it.

As new formats emerged, so did my love for learning. When Gin Miller introduced step training through Reebok, I was there, embracing the challenge and energy of this new movement. Over the years, I attended countless IDEA conventions, earning multiple certifications and continually expanding my knowledge to stay current, effective, and inspired.

In the mid-90s, I combined my love of martial arts style movement and high energy training to create a Taekwondo inspired class called Dari-Bo, based on the Billy Blanks method. The class quickly gained popularity and opened the door to developing circuit training, interval formats, and one-to-one training, much like what we now recognize as personal training.

As my career progressed, I stepped into leadership roles, including Director of Fitness and New Instructor Trainer, mentoring others and helping shape strong, confident fitness professionals.

The journey

Life eventually led me down a different path, and in 2001 I transitioned into corporate America. While my career shifted, my commitment to fitness never wavered. I continued to train, move, and live an active lifestyle because fitness has always been part of who I am.

Now, I’m thrilled to be circling back to my roots.

Today, I’m triple certified as a Personal Trainer, Functional Fitness Specialist, and Group Fitness Instructor, with current CPR/AED certification. I bring decades of real world experience, education, and passion into every session, blending smart programming, functional movement, and encouragement to help clients feel strong, capable, and confident at any stage of life.

This isn’t just a career comeback, it’s a return to what I love most: helping people move better, feel better, and know they can.
